I recently used SGM Construction to build a rear single-storey extension at my property. Access to the site was particularly narrow, so I was initially concerned about how the foundations and structural work would be managed.

Stephen and his team handled the access constraints without any fuss and completed the work to an excellent standard. The build progressed at a good pace and communication was clear throughout. Stephen regularly kept me informed of the next stages so I always felt involved in the process.

Project: Double-storey wrap-around extension and renovation

Stephen and his team completed a fantastic job on a complex extension and full renovation of our 100‑year‑old property. The project involved extensive structural steel works and was far from a straightforward build.

The house was brought fully into the modern era with smart electrics, heat pump, battery storage and solar integration — all delivered seamlessly. Communication was excellent throughout and the project remained on budget.

Project: Loft conversion and two-storey extension with new kitchen and bathroom

We are incredibly happy with Stephen and the team’s hard work, attention to detail and commitment to excellent customer service throughout the project.

The works involved extensive structural alterations to extend both upwards and outwards on our Victorian end-of-terrace house. Stephen visited on a number of occasions before the build began to plan the works carefully and explain each stage required to achieve our vision while remaining within budget.

He also recommended trusted local specialists to assist with structural calculations, planning and building control submissions, which helped the process move forward far more quickly than we had anticipated. When unexpected issues were uncovered with the existing foundations, Stephen and the team adapted quickly and provided solutions that were cost-effective, safe and fully compliant with Building Regulations.

The build itself was challenging due to the reduced access and age of the property, but the team consistently found ways to maintain good progress and deliver a beautiful renovation we are proud to call home. All of Stephen’s tradesmen were friendly, professional and respectful, and we felt completely comfortable living on site while the works were carried out.

Stephen stuck to his word throughout, delivered the project on budget and to an extremely high standard, and remained open and transparent with costings from start to finish. There were no unexpected costs at the end, and we received all required completion documentation and warranties. Stephen has also arranged to revisit over the coming year to ensure everything continues to meet his own high standards.

Overall, we would wholeheartedly recommend SGM Construction and are extremely grateful for the effort and care that went into our home.
